Founded by Ronni Kahn in 2014, OzHarvest is one of the leading food rescue organizations of Australia. OzHarvest started with a simple goal and mission, which was to provide food to the needy. Initially, OzHarvest started its operations in Sydney but now it is serving the needy people all over Australia. The primary focus of OzHarvest is to find food donors and obtain surplus food items that would go to waste otherwise. Then these food items are directly delivered to the needy and deserving people.
As OzHarvest operates at national level, it collects almost 200 tonnes of food from different places every week. After that these food items are delivered to different organizations and charities and it is ensured that this food reaches the deserving people. As an organization, OzHarvest works very hard to make sure that this food reaches the ones who need it the most. Recently, international students residing in Australia have been OzHarvest’s priority.
During these testing times of COVID-19 pandemic, OzHarvest has been fighting on the frontline and working day and night in collaboration with the federal and local governments to identify the points where international students are in need of food. As a result, OzHarvest has distributed around 4,154 hampers with various food items including ready-to-cook soup packs, vegetables and fruits. These hampers were distributed through different Hamper Hubs that were specially established for this purpose.
This initiative of OzHarvest has been helpful for many international students who were struggling in different ways. These difficulties were acknowledged by OzHarvest and its timely response and helping effort helped the international students to survive and fight these testing times. Through this initiative, OzHarvest has given a message to everyone that with compassion and combined effort we can fight and survive through every pandemic and every disaster.
