Over 19,000 Immigrants received by Canada in this June

Canada is well known for receiving immigrants from all over the world. Similarly, this trend has not stopped yet, and more immigrants are welcomed by Canada despite the pandemic of COVID-19.

The Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released new data which has stated that Canada has welcomed around 19,200 new permanent residents in this June 2020.

The new intake of permanent residents in June was quite stronger than the previous intake of 11,000 and 4,000 immigrants in May and April respectively. Moreover, the intake of June was the highest since the pandemic in March.

Whereas, in the previous June 2019, over 34,000 immigrants were invited to Canada. The lower number of invitations this year is due to the pandemic of Covid-19 which has caused many changes in the world order i.e. lockdowns, ban on air travel and blockage in trade. Canada has had imposed restrictions since March.

More changes included the confirmation of permanent residence (COPR) holders who are unable to travel to Canada, even if they are allowed to do it so and IRCC application processing which is also being affected due to social distancing and prevention measures.

These are the top immigrant countries in June 2020

  • India (6,760)
  • China (2,010)
  • Philippines (900)
  • USA (740)
  • Pakistan (595)
  • Brazil (560)
  • United Kingdom (535)
  • Nigeria (530)

Canadian immigration

These countries with the most immigrants remain unchanged from the previous months and years. Whereas, the new immigrants in June were those people who had applied for Permanent Residence months before.

Predictions for the rest of the year 2020

From the figures of immigrants in June 2020, we can conclude that the Immigration system of Canada is coming on the normal routine after the deadly world break, which created travel delays also. The Permanent residents’ level of Canada will be high in the summer seasons in the coming years, we could also predict that there remains a higher number of immigrants in the summers.

Even so, Canada has adopted the previous policy to invite more immigration candidates to apply for the Permanent Residence.

In the last week, two Express Entry draws were held in Canada, which included the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) candidates in those draws. As those candidates of (FSWP) were not included in the Express entry draws between March and July.

The commencement of Express Entry draws which include Federal Skilled Worker Program candidates and the continuing Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws are those positive signs that reflect the successful pre-pandemic immigration policies of Canada. To maintain and sustain the Canadian economy, the high level of invitations to immigrants will be the chief policy of the country
