Ontario Tech Draw: 1,186 Express Entry candidates invited

On February 16, 2021, Ontario held the latest Tech draw. In this draw, Ontario invited 1,186 immigration candidates in the technology sector. The candidates were invited to apply for provincial nomination.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued invitations to those candidates who had a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score between 453 and 467. This program also issued invitations to those candidates who were also eligible for Human Capital Priorities Stream.

To get an invitation, the invited candidates were required to provide proof of their skilled work experience in the specified occupations. The six included occupations were:

  • Computer and information systems managers
  • Computer engineers
  • Database analysts and data administrators
  • Software engineers and designers
  • Computer programmer and interactive media developers
  • Web designers and developers

Those candidates who received an invitation from Ontario will receive an additional 600 points towards their CRS. These additional 600 points ensure an ITA.

This draw was among the first Tech draw of Ontario. In the previous programs like Human Capital Priorities, the candidates were invited to the targeted occupations.

The applicants have to create their profile in the Express Entry System.

The Express Entry System is responsible for the management of the three main economic immigration streams of Canada. These streams are:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Moreover, other provincial immigration programs are attached to the Express Entry System. The eligible candidates for the immigration programs are issued scores under the Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System. The points are awarded on basic human capital factors such as age, language, work experience and language proficiency. The candidate’s CRC score is one of the major selection factors for the application for Permanent Residence.

The candidates with the highest scores in the draw are issued an  Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in an Express Entry invitation round.

The OINP Tech draw will list out the candidates that will be eligible for this program. The process for applying for provincial nomination is different from applying for Canadian Immigration.

When the candidates successfully obtain a provincial nomination from any Canadian province, that notification can be used to obtain a permanent residence from the government.

As the candidates get approval, they can become permanent residents in Canada, and they can start their careers in Canada.
