“Healthcare” asylum appellants also in the list to become Permanent Residents

After this deadly worldwide break of Covid-19, the healthcare workers are being rewarded due to their exceptional services in the sector. These healthcare workers were available 24/7 in the hospitals to serve the affected ones. It will not be easy to adopt the new routine after this pandemic, whereas, in the lockdowns, the people were living in their homes, the front-line workers kept us safe in these situations.

Canada, while also being in the services of rewarding the health workers has announced to provide a path for permanent residents. The asylum claimants who are healthcare workers can apply for permanent residence in Canada. This pathway is a tribute to these healthcare workers.

The pathway includes all healthcare front line workers who are asylum claimants in Canada, are eligible for this pathway. A similar program is also announced in the Quebec province. The applicant family members are also included in this pathway. This means that the family members are also eligible to apply. If they are successful in fulfilling the criteria, then all the family members will be granted permanent residence in Canada. The rejected applicants are excluded from this pathway.

Eligibility:

The requirements for this program are:

  • The applicants have applied to an asylum before March 13, 2020.
  • The applicants have obtained a work permit after applying for asylum.
  • The applicants must have worked in the health sector/ health care institutions
  • The applicants must have completed at least 120 hours between March 13th, 2020 to August 14th,
  • The applicants must have worked as a nurse, nurse’s aide, patient service associate, or as a home support worker
  • The applicants must prove 6 months of working experience in this field before applying for PR.

The applicants must be admissible to Canada, they must not have any criminal records or they pose a threat to security and health.
