Express Entry Draw: Canadian immigration invites 4,750 CEC candidates

On January 7, 2021, Canada held a second Express Entry draw, this was the second invitation round in two days.

A total of 4,750 invitations were issued to the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. A Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 461 was required for an Invitation to Apply (ITA).  Whereas, the proper results of this draw were announced on January 8, 2021. A total number of 250 applicants were invited in the previous draw, and a minimum score was 813.

The candidates who receive a provincial nomination, are automatically awarded 600 additional points towards their CRS.

The federal Express Entry system is the main immigration system of Canada that is responsible for 3 federal economic-class programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

The candidates in these programs, some Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), are given a score supported by the CRS. The points are awarded counting on a candidates’ human capital factors like age, education, work experience, and language ability in English or French.
The highest-scoring candidates receive an ITA, which they will then use for Canadian permanent residence.

In this draw, the tie-breaking rule was used. The purpose of a tie-break is to rank those candidates who have a CRS score that is based on a specific time and date of the creation of their profile.

The tie-break rule for the following draw was used for September 12, 2020, at 20:46:32 UTC. This shows that candidates with a CRS score of 461 were issued invitations if their profiles were submitted before this date and time. After this draw, the number of invitations issued in 2021 has reached 5,000.

Under the Immigration Level plan of 2021-2023, Canada will invite 111,000 immigrants per year.
