Coronavirus and its effect on Canadian Immigration

After COVID-19, the world situation is still unpredictable. Till there is no proper vaccine that has proved results. There are many factors to consider when looking at Canadian immigration in future. The Canadian Immigration in the future will be predicted by the demographic factors, economy, labour shortages, politics, and a plan to house the new immigrants in the country.

Inside factors:

Covid-19 has left an impact on the Canadian economy, and still Canada is looking to increase the immigration drive and the economic recovery in the country. Still, Canada has planned to revive and maintain this immigration plan, and to increase the number of immigrants by 2023. The Canadian citizens also believe that immigration processes will help Canada to recover its economy. Moreover, the demographic factors remain the same, Canada has a low birthrate and an ageing population.

The Conference Board of Canada says that by 2034 the immigrants are expected to be responsible for the 100% of Canada’s population growth, this will also leave a significant impact on the economic growth of Canada. The immigrants also perform well in the creation of jobs in the labour market. The immigrants who have come to Canada through the Provincial Nominee Program’s, Federal Canadian Experience Class, perform better in fulfilling the labour market shortages. The Federal Skilled Worker Program also perform integrates into the labour market.

Global factors:

The intake of immigrants also depends upon the world’s issues. Canada has always looked towards the interest of foreign nationals who come to Canada. Moreover, the Canadian government determines immigration targets based on world issues every year. For example, in the previous year’s Canada made adjustments in the economic class to accommodate the Syrian refugees. This year, Canada has also taken a major hit in achieving the targets. This year, 19,000 permanent residents were called to Canada. World Education Services (WES) has provided a survey that after the pandemic, there is a more trend expected among the international community to immigrate to Canada.

Expectations in the coming time:

The economic challenges can increase the immigration demand for Canada.  The immigration fees were increased in April, and in the world global currencies were observed to be dropped. Economies of various countries have been severely affected by this virus. The future remains indistinct as COVID-19 still threatens the world order and economy. The Canadian economy has been seen to be recovering after this virus, as the lost jobs have been recovered.
