The latest statistics by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) show that October was the second strongest month in which the immigrants arrive in Canada. In October 2020, Canada welcomed 15,000 new immigrants in the country, whereas, the same number of immigrants were also welcomed in the previous month.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the immigration levels of Canada were dropped to a significant amount, but later the country announced the new immigration level plans to invite more immigrants to Canada in the coming years.
Previously, Canada invited 25,000-35,000 new immigrants every month. In October 2019, Canada invited 31,000 immigrants.
Canada welcomed 158,600 immigrants in the first 10 months of 2020, this also means that the arrivals in this year will be around 200,000. Before this pandemic, Canada invited 341,000 immigrants. The only highest number of immigrant intake was up to 19,100 immigrants in the month of June.
Regardless of this pandemic, Canada has planned to welcome the high levels of new immigrants as permanent residents. The new immigration level plan for 2021-2023 will aim to invite 400,000 immigrants every year.
The Express Entry draws are being held regularly, and Canada has exceeded 100,000 Express Entry invitations the first time. The Express Entry is the primary and economic immigration stream of Canada.
It is not yet clear if Canada’s 2021 immigration target is reachable because of continuous interruptions brought about by COVID-19.
